About nslungtransplant.ca
This website was conceived and administered by double lung transplant recipient and member of the Lung Association of Nova Scotia Board of Directors Trevor Umlah and has raised more than $20,000 for the Lung Association of Nova Scotia’s Lung Transplant Fund, through events such as the Annual Lung Transplant Classic golf tournament and fundraising lotteries.

About Lung Transplants for Nova Scotians
Nova Scotians who require life-saving lung transplant surgery are required to relocate, at their own expense, to within 2 hours of a lung transplant centre such as Toronto General Hospital. There, they will receive care from one of the most successful lung transplant programs in the world.

Currently, after the patient is away from home for 90 days, the Province of Nova Scotia subsidizes their housing costs for up to $1,500 per month.
The average time on the wait list is 12 months and the patient is required to remain near the transplant centre for at least 3 months post-transplant. A patient can expect to be out of pocket anywhere from $20,000 to $100,000 depending on the length of their wait.
